HERKIMER-Douglas Donald Pedrick age 80 of Maple Grove Avenue passed away on Thursday evening June 20, 2013 in Saint Marys Hospital, Memorial Campus, Amsterdam. He had the support and comfort of his loving family at his side.
He was born on February 17, 1933 in Ephrata, son of the late Rensler and Beretha Benedict Pedrick. Doug was raised in Ephrata and educated in Oppenheim-Ephrata Schools. On April 21, 1952 he enlisted in the US Navy. He served as a boiler operator aboard the USS Newport News and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Medal. He was honorably discharged on March 20, 1956 attaining the rank of BTG 3. On October 10, 1953 he was united in marriage with the former Joanne H. May in Herkimer. They shared a devoted union of thirty-nine years until her passing on May 2, 1992.
For more than thirty years Mr. Pedrick worked as a master machinist for the Chicago Pneumatic Company in Utica. He retired in 1990.
Doug had a strong faith in God and was a member of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer/Little Falls. He had a real love for the outdoors and at one time he was a member of the Sprite Club and the East Herkimer Fish and Game Club. He cherished the memories of the many summers spent with his family at fourth Lake. To all who knew him he was an honest, sincere and caring man. Any conversation with him was straight and to the point but you always felt a warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving him are a daughter Tracey and her husband Anthony Macri of Herkimer, one son Douglas D. Pedrick Jr. of East Herkimer, two sisters, Barbara ODonell and Virginia Ford both of Gloversville, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and his devoted companion of nineteen years Sylvia Cheney, her family and his many friends in Rockwood.
Calling hours for Mr. Pedrick will be on Monday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. Funeral service will follow immediately after at 7:00 pm. The Reverend Janet Gleason, pastor of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer/Little Falls will officiate. Interment in Oak Hill Cemetery with military honors accorded by the US Navy will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Members of American Legion Post # 38 Herkimer are asked to meet at the funeral home on Monday at 6:00 pm for ritualistic services.
