HERKIMER - Edith S. Graves, 81,of Gray Street, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2000, in Bassett Healthcare,Cooperstown.She was born Oct. 10, 1918, inIlion, daughter of the late Clarence and Jenny Sprague. Edith was raised inIlion, was a graduate of Ilion High School and furthered her education atSyracuse University. On July 31, 1948, she married George Graves in theMethodist Church, Ilion. She was a resident of Herkimer since 1969, coming herefrom Mohawk. For many years, she worked for the Olde English Cleaners, Herkimer.She was a former member of Myrtle Chapter OES and was a member of theCrowley-Barnum American Legion Post 25 Ladies Auxiliary, where she ran the Bingonight and was the auxiliary liaison to various groups.Surviving besides her husband of51 years, George, are one son, Rex and his wife Jean Graves of New Hartford; twodaughters and their husbands, Sandy and Wayne DeCarr of Warners, and Cindy andDerek Woertendyke of West Oneonta; a brother, Richard Sprague and his wife Margeof Ilion; two sisters, Joan Ward of Watkins Glen, Betty Lou and her husbandRobert Whittemore of Oswego; seven grandchildren, Ezra and Marie Graves, Derekand Jason Woertendyke, Heidi and her husband Peter Armao, Christine and WayneDeCarr; two great-grandchildren, Michal Paige and Keaton Armao; several nieces,nephews and cousins; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Miller of Frankfort and HelenSprague of Sherburne, as well as her husband's uncle, John Graves of Newport.She was preceded in death by abrother, Charles Sprague.Funeral services will be Saturdayat 11 a.m. in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer, with the Rev.David Oertel, Folts Homes chaplain, officiating. Interment will follow in OakHill Cemetery.The family will be present toreceive friends and relatives in the funeral home today (Friday) from 4-7 p.m.Memorial donations may be made toMOVAC.
