Edna K. Elwood, 100, of Gray Street,died peacefully, on Monday, March 6, 2000, in Little Falls Hospital.
She was born on January 4,1900, in Herkimer, daughter ofthe late Edward and Mabelle Eckler Klossner. A lifelong Herkimer resident she was a graduate of Herkimer High SchoolClass of 1918 and went on to graduate from the Utica School of Commerce. On March 5, 1930, she married Glenn F. Elwood in the Herkimer MethodistChurch Parsonage. A blessed unionof 44 years until his passing on April 10, 1974. For 19 years Edna worked as a secretary for the Standard FurnitureCompany, retiring in 1936. On April12, 1912 she joined the First United Methodist Church Herkimer. The Reverend J.A. Chapman was then serving as pastor. For over 40 years she sang in the choir. And was a soloist for variouschurches in Herkimer and Little Falls. Shewith her husband Glenn served as treasurer of the church for over 27 years. She taught Sunday school, was a member of the United Methodist Women, theVhai Philathea Class and the weekly bible study group. For many years she was a Girl Scout leader and was known for thedelicious pies that she made for the church luncheons, dinners and variouschurch functions. She was a memberof Henderson Chapter DAR, life member of Valley Evening Star Chapter #82 O.E.S.,the Herkimer County Historical Society and AARP.
Surviving are her son Foster Elwood of Atlanta, GA, fourgrandchildren, Dawn and her husband Steve Coker, David and his wife CindyElwood, Kathy and her husband Brad Powell, Lisa and her husband Randy Holcomb,five great grandchildren; Nick and Abby Coker, Taylor Elwood, Christine Powelland Ashley Holcomb all of Atlanta, GA., a sister-in-law Helen Wires of StAugustine, FL, a brother-in-law Arthur Elwood of Vestal, several nieces, andnephews. Besides her husband Glenn,she was preceded in death a sister Ann D. Klossner in 1977; her daughter-in-lawDonna M. Elwood in 1994 and a brother-in-law William Elwood in 1999.
Funeral service will be on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in theFirst United Methodist Church Herkimer with the Reverend William Otis, pastorofficiating. Interment will followin Oak Hill Cemetery.
The family will be present to receive friends and relativesin Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer on Wednesday evening7:00 to 9:00 PM
Memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of TheFirst United Methodist Church, Herkimer. Envelopeswill be available at the funeral home.
