Obituary

HERKIMER-Edna May Reitz age 93 passed away on Saturday morning April 5, 2014 in her home after an extended illness. She was born on May 31, 1920 in Herkimer, daughter of the late Raymond J. and Stella Blanche Tarbox Lowell. A lifelong Herkimer resident, she was a graduate of Herkimer High School. On October 12, 1940 she was united in marriage with Robert L. Reitz in the First Baptist Church, Herkimer. Together they shared a loving and devoted union for over seventy-two years until his passing on January 25, 2013. For a short time Mrs. Reitz worked as a sales clerk for the F. W. Woolworth Store in Herkimer before becoming a mother and homemaker. Edna will always be remembered for the deep love she had for her entire family. She had a strong faith in God and was a member of the Herkimer First Baptist Church. In her younger days, Edna could always be counted on for working in the church kitchen or helping out at the annual church rummage sales. At one time she was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter in Herkimer as well as a Den Mother with the Cub Scouts. To all who knew her they will always remember a kind, caring and helpful lady who enjoyed doing for others while looking for nothing in return. She will be truly missed. Surviving are her son, Wayne Reitz and his wife Prapai of Herkimer, three brothers, Charles Lowell and his wife Ellen, Robert Lowell and his wife Arleta all of East Herkimer, James Lowell and his wife Geraldine of Herkimer, five sisters, Marion Taylor of Utica, Frances Castilla and her husband Angelo, Betty Boyer and her husband Hubert all of East Herkimer, Ellen Palmenteri and her husband Joseph of Albertson, LI, Pearl Swart of Vineland, NJ, one son-in-law, Richard Hilts of Fairfield, six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband Robert she was preceded in death by one son Robert Reitz, two daughters, Karen Ann Reitz and Claire Stella Hilts and two brother-in-laws, William Taylor and William Swart. Funeral service for Mrs. Reitz will be on Thursday April 17th at 2:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend Doctor Thelonian Bell, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Herkimer will officiate. Interment in Mountain View Memorial Gardens, town of Little Falls will take place at a later this spring. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the First Baptist Church, Herkimer. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
