Obituary

JORDANVILLE - Edna Margaret Smith, age 92, formerly of Main Street, passed away on Wednesday morning, June 29, 2005, in the home of her sister, Louise Butler of the Town of Oneonta, with whom she had resided. She was born on March 17, 1913 in Jordanville, the daughter of the late George F. and Mary Crim Yule. A lifelong Jordanville resident she was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School with the "Class of 1930." She then furthered her education at Oneonta Normal School, graduating in 1933. Mrs. Smith taught in rural one-room schoolhouses in Orendorf Corners and Jordanville. She retired from Richfield Springs Central Schools where she taught second grade in 1975. On December 26, 1942 she was united in marriage to Leslie E. Smith in Orlando, FL. A loving and devoted union of fifty-three years until his passing on February 22, 1996. Edna had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Jordanville Federated Church. She had a true sense of community. For over twenty years she volunteered her services working at the Jordanville Public Library, taught Sunday School for many years, and had served on the Herkimer County Republican Committee. To all who knew her they will remember her warm smile and gentle way. She will never be forgotten by her many friends and former students. Surviving are a sister, Edith Louise Butler of Oneonta; one brother, Donald Yule and his wife, Marion "Robie"; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband Leslie, she preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Curtis Yule; two sisters, Esther Moyer and Ethel Briggs. A memorial service will be held on July 16th at 11 a.m. in the Jordanville Federated Church. The Reverend Scott Hocking, Pastor will officiate. Committal in Highland Rural Cemetery, Jordanville was private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the Jordanville Public Library or the Jordanville Federated Church. Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs
