Edward H. Briggs, Sr., 85, of Herkimer, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026, at Alpine Nursing and Rehabilitation, Little Falls. At the time of his passing, he had the comfort of his loving family by his side.
Ed was born on February 10, 1941, in the Town of Russia, NY, the son of the late Fred Briggs and Millie Stanley. He was raised and educated in Van Hornsville. On November 16, 1957, Ed married his one and only love, Martha Isabul in Jordanville, NY. They shared 61 years wonderful years together, until Martha’s passing on December 12, 2018. His love and devotion showed even after her passing as he made several trips a day up to Oak Hill Cemetery to have a conversation and say I Love You.
Ed was employed by Remington Arms Company, Ilion as a Firearms Repairmen. He retired after 42 years of faithful service. In his spare time, he enjoyed corn hole, Yahtzee, bowling and watching NASCAR with his favorite driver, the late Dale Earnhardt.
Ed is survived by his sons Edward Briggs, Jr and his wife Tonya, Daniel Briggs and his companion Wendy Rizza both of Herkimer, daughters Laurie Waterbury, Herkimer, Edna Briggs, Mohawk, Brenda Briggs and her wife April, Herkimer, sister Betty Johnson, grandchildren Alisha, Samantha, Rebecca, Carl, Jennifer, Leanne, Daniel, Justin, Eric, Tiffany and Duane, there also numerous great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, wife Martha and sisters Ruth Miller and Marjorie Briggs.
Calling hours for family and friends will be held on Thursday, Jul 9, 2026, from 9:30AM to 11:30AM at Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer, NY. A funeral service will take place following the calling hours at 11:30AM with Pastor Christopher Schumske of Oak Ridge Methodist Church officiating. Procession will follow to Oak Hill Cemetery, West German Street, Herkimer where he will be laid to rest with his beloved wife Martha. All are welcome to attend.
