Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Edward W. Decker, Sr., age 80 of Route 20, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2005 in St. Elizabeths Hospital, Utica. He was born on February 24, 1925 in Richfield Springs, a son of the late William and Clara Domion Decker. A lifelong Richfield Springs resident he attended Richfield Springs Central School. An honorably discharged US Army veteran, and Purple Heart recipient, Edward served his country in WW II. In 1951 he married the former Lois J. Steele. For over 22 years he worked at Remington Arms Gun manufacturing Company, Ilion, retiring in 1985. After retirement he continued to stay busy by helping his son Ed Jr., with his business Eds Place in Brighton Corners. He truly enjoyed spending time and sharing stories with the customers. He was a true friend to many and will never be forgotten. Ed was a member of Richfield Springs American Legion Post #616. He had a strong love for outdoor life, especially hunting, fishing. He had been an snowmobile safety instructor. He enjoyed a good card game and bowling. Surviving are two sons, Edward Decker, Jr. and his wife Cynthia of Utica, Dale Decker of Ventura, CA, a daughter Dana Betts and her husband James of West Winfield, three brothers, James, John and Joseph Decker, two sisters, Maryann Fedowitcz and Elanor Wilbert, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A special thanks to Grant Seamon for all his help through the years. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Randy in 1988, three brothers, William Albert, and Robert Decker along with two sisters, Dianne Tuoroni and Irene Musa. The family will be present in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, to receive relatives and friends on Thursday evening from 4:00 7:00 p.m. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department or the Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
