ILION-Edward T. Harter age 65 of Prospect Avenue passed away unexpectedly on October 15, 2005 in his home.
He was born on July 2, 1940 in Herkimer, son of the late Raymond and Dorothy Rowell Harter. A lifelong Ilion resident he was a graduate of Ilion High School with the class of 1958. He furthered his education, graduating from Mohawk Valley Community College. On October 15, 1960 he married Gail Dolin in Saint Pauls Church in Whitesboro. They have resided in Ilion since. Mr. Harter had first worked as an Insurance agent. In 1972 he went to work for the K-Mart Stores where he managed the Appliance Departments in the Herkimer and New Hartford stores, retiring in 1989. He then worked for seven years at the Lexington Adult Care Home in Gloversville retiring in 1996.
Mr. Harter was a forty-year member of the Ilion Moose Lodge # 1010 and a life member of the Utica Bowling Association where he served as Secretary-Treasurer. Ed enjoyed Golf and Shuffle Board but his real love was bowling and the many years he spent as a member of the UBA. One of his proudest moments was when he was named to the Bowling Hall of Fame in Utica.
Ed was a man who always put his family first. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family especially his grandchildren.
Surviving are his loving wife of forty-five years Gail, one son Edward Raymond and his wife Lorrie Harter of Witherbee, two daughters and their husbands Cindy Marie and Francis Grippe of Frankfort, Sally and Ben Juliano of Whitesboro, a sister Marlene and her husband Dale Christie of Schuyler, eight grandchildren, two sister-in-laws, Evelyn Dolin who was very special to Ed, Eileen and her husband Everett Burr of Sauquoit, one brother-in-law Gary Dolin and his wife Patsy of Newport, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be on Monday at 6:30 pm in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. With the Reverend Anthony Barrett, Pastor on Annunciation Church officiating. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Monday from 4:00 until 6:30 pm. Members of the Ilion Moose Lodge #1010 are asked to meet at the funeral home today at 6:15 pm for ritualistic services.
