Edward Duncan Jr.'s Obituary

SCHUYLER LAKE-Edward Duncan Jr. age 75 of County Highway #22, beloved husband of Rosetta Mondore Duncan entered into eternal rest on Wednesday night November 19, 2003 in Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side. Ed was born on June 20, 1928 in Davenport son of the late Edward and Sarah VanBuren Duncan. A lifelong area resident he was educated in Schuyler Lake and Richfield Springs schools. On December 20, 1951 he married the former Rosetta Mondore in Richfield Springs. Together they have resided in Schuyler Lake since. Anyone who knew Ed knew he was a hard worker and always kept himself busy. For many years he was employed by Shur-Katch in Richfield Springs along with farming and taking care of the Schuyler Lake Cemetery. The last five years of his working life were spent at the Richfield Springs Land Fill where he retired in 1982. His leisure time was spent coloring, buying and selling things for the house-store, cooking, growing flowers, spending time with his family, listening to country and gospel music. Every year he looked forward to going to the Cobleskill Fair. He enjoyed the outdoors and especially liked to hunt and fish. To all that knew Ed they will remember his good sense of humor, his caring manner and warm smile. He will be missed by many and will never be forgotten. Surviving are his devoted wife of fifty-one years Rosetta, four sons Eddie and his wife Janet Duncan, William Duncan all of Burlington Flats, Earl and his wife Laurie Duncan, James and his wife Tammy Duncan all of East Winfield, three daughters and their husbands Rosemary and William Oldick of Van Hornesville, Marie and Don Walsh of Richfield Springs, Betty and Russell Schermerhorn of Burlington Flats, two sisters, Elizabeth Sparks of Herkimer, Isabelle Garbera of Richfield Springs, three brothers; Frank Duncan of Schuyler Lake, Ray Duncan of Richfield Springs, Elwin Duncan of Hartwick, seventeen grandchildren, several great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and his best friend of nineteen years Alex. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers; Howard, Herbert, Sylvan, Fred Duncan and a sister Louise Duncan. Funeral service will be on Monday at 11:00 am in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. The Reverend John Young will officiate. Mr. Duncan will be laid to rest in Schuyler Lake Cemetery.
