RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Edward L. Klein, age 79 of Ann Street passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2006 in his home. with the comfort of his son Randall at his side.
Edward was born on April 18, 1926in Freeport, Long Island a son of the late Anthony and Mary Sherwood Klein where he was raised and educated.He serve our country during World War II in the United States Navy, on the destroyer escort U.S.S. Riley, as a Signal Man Third Class. After being Honorably Discharged from the Navy, he returned home, graduated from Hempstead High School and enrolled and received an Engineering Degree from C. W. Post College.
On October 1, 1950 he married the former Audrey Virginia Putrill in Freeport, Long Island a blessed and loving union of nearly 36 years until her passing on September 16, 1986. They had resided in Massapequa Park until they moved to Richfield Springs in 1969.
Ed was a drafting engineer for Grumman Aerospace Corporation in Bethpage working on the U.S.N. Blue Angels, Apollo 11 and Apollo 12, before retiring from Intermagnetics in Guilderland in 1988. Edward was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs where he had served on the Church Vestry. He was also a member of the Wantaugh - Morton Lodge No. 63 F.&A.M. and he was a Past Patron with the South Bay Chapter Order of Eastern Star.
To all that knew Ed he was a good friend and a conversationalist, enjoying chess and technological gadgets.
Surviving him are two sons; Russell and his wife Susan of Scottsdale, AZ and Randall of the Bronx, two grandchildren Sarah and Jeffery both of Scottsdale. Besides his parents and wife Audrey he was preceded in death by a brother Tony Little and two sisters Thelma Edwards and Marie Bender.
A service of the Burial Office and Holy Communion will be held on Tuesday June 13, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Johns Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs. The Reverend John Dixon Bartle, Rector will officiate. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery with Fraternal and Military Honors accorded.
Expression of sympathy in Edwards memory may be made the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation envelopes will be available at the Church.
