Obituary

HERKIMER Edward Parmon, 77, of Shells Bush Road, passed away on Friday June 25, 2010 in Little Falls Hospital. Ed was born on September 3, 1932 in Remsen, NY to Kon and Stephania (Saranowska) Parmon. A lifelong area resident, graduating from HerkimerHigh School class of 1952, after which he enlisted in the United States Army with training in Fort Dix, NJ, then serving in Fort Hood, TXuntil honorably discharged in 1956 as Specialist 3rd Class. On December 12, 1953, Edward was married to Joanna Bunoski at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer. In 1956 Ed and Joanna purchased a dairy farm in Herkimer. After operating it 23 years, the farm was sold. Ed then worked in multiple area businesses though he spent several years at Chicago Pneumatic in Uticawhere he retired. He also taught Refrigeration and Air Conditioning classes at Herkimer BOCES up to the fall term 2009. Ed was employed for the past thirteen years at Sears in Herkimer. Mr. Parmon had a strong faith in God and attended the Oak Ridge Free Methodist Church, Herkimer. In his leisure he enjoyed playing Scrabble, chess, solving crossword puzzles, and wildlife watching near his home. He also enjoyed watching football, especially the Green Bay Packers. Whether family member, friend, or stranger, all knew Ed as a kind, soft-spoken, and well-mannered man with a great sense of humor and an unforgettable smile. To his family he was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather who was always there for them in good times and bad. He will be remembered as a compassionate, selfless man, generous with his time, helping others whenever needed. He will be greatly missed. Surviving are his devoted wife of 56 years, Joanna; sons Edward, Jr. and wife Rachel of Reading, PA; Joseph and wife Jeannie of MO; daughters Cheryl Punzi and Stephen of Niskayuna, Diane Wedemeyer of Herkimer, Deborah Fast, husband Jerry of TN. A brother Harold Parmon and Doris of Herkimer; five sisters: Stella Stocker and Harvey of FL, Ruth Weber and Warren, Sophie Valente, Joan Parmon and Betty Parmon, all of Herkimer; three grandchildren: Leah Thomas, Melanie Lopata and Andrew Patterson; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers: Kon, Adam, John, Peter, David, and William Parmon; two sisters: Elsie Case and Jennie Ovanna and one grandchild Shay Patterson. Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Oak Ridge Free Methodist Church, Herkimer with the Reverend Christopher Schumski officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, Little Falls. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., in Fenner Funeral Home Inc. 115 Court Street, Herkimer.
