Edward Lewis Richer, age 61 formerly of Herkimer passed away on Sunday evening July 16, 2017 in Saint Marys Hospital, Amsterdam. He had the love and support of his family by his side. Ed was born on March 8, 1956 in Herkimer, son of the late John and Dorothy I. Trautner Richer. He was raised and educated in Herkimer. For many years Mr. Richer owned and operated The Auto Doctor on West Albany Street in Herkimer before moving to Salisbury, NC. Most recently, upon returning to New York he was working for U-Haul in Utica. On July 13, 2013 he was united in marriage to the former Vicky Piersma in the Word Christian Center in Mohawk. They shared a loving and devoted relationship for over 27 years. To those who knew him he will always be remembered as an expert auto mechanic who raced Stock Cars at Fonda and Utica-Rome Speedway. In more recent years he was very involved with go-cart racing. He will be sadly missed by many close friends in the racing community and his family, especially his cherished grandchildren. Surviving are his devoted wife Vicky, three sons, Richard and his wife Tanya, James and his companion Kaleena, David Richer, three daughters, Cindy Richer and her companion Christine, Dawn Richer, Heather Dover and her husband Michael, two brothers, Billy Richer and his wife Faye, Ralph Richer and his wife Carol, three sisters, Tina Stanley and husband Jim, Barbara Richer, Dawn Lincoln and her husband Chuck, sixteen grandchildren ,Gabriella, Kayla, Cory, Ryan, Charles, Carly, Heavenly, Trinity, Gideon, Elliott, Atreyu, Elijah, Aurora, Logan, Trevor, and Beyonka many nieces, nephews and cousins, and K-9 companion Seraph. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Wendy Richer, his step-father, John Powell and two brothers, Robert Richer, and Lanny Bigelow.. Funeral service for Mr. Richer will be on Saturday at 4:00 pm at the Word Christian Center in Mohawk with Pastor Eugene Kipper officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given directly to the family. Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., Herkimer.
