Obituary

HUNTINGDON, PA-Edward Joseph Scram, age 93, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, March 2, 2022 at Westminster Woods –the Oaks-in Huntingdon, PA. He was born on March 9, 1928 in Hartwick, NY, son of the late Loran and Grace Evans Scram. Edward was raised in Herkimer and was a graduate of Herkimer High School. He furthered his education at Utica College. After college, he went to work for the New York Telephone Company as a Cableman Installer. On September 14, 1950, he was united in marriage to the former Marilyn Ann Hiller in the First United Methodist Church in Herkimer. They first made their home in Herkimer and on January 15, 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He served with the 4th Command Construction Squadron at Robins Air Force Base, Georgia and spent a year and three months overseas. He was honorably discharged on January 14, 1955. He returned to Herkimer and went back to work for the New York Telephone Company. He retired in 1982 after 35 years of dedicated service. Mr. Scram had a strong belief in God and was a member of the First United Methodist Church Ilion. At one time, he was a member of the Ilion Masonic Lodge. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. In his earlier years he coached the Methodist Church boys' basketball team and Little League baseball and was a member of the Utica Pacemaker's running club. To all who knew him, they will always remember a kind, caring and helpful man who loved his wife and family. He was happiest when he was with his many friends, especially his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be sadly missed. Surviving him are his devoted wife of seventy-one years, Marilyn Ann; two sons, Mark (Barbara) of Arkansas City, KS and Edward (Jeanette) of Loudon, TN ; two daughters, Susan Sokul (Roy) of Concord, NH and Lynn Scram Rennell of Alexandria, PA; one brother Loran Scram of Herkimer, nine grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Walther Scram and his sisters, Helen Horner and Margaret Ford. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM, on Friday , May 20th at Fenner Funeral Home, Inc. (115 Court Street, Herkimer). On Saturday, May 21st, at 10AM, there will be a Celebration at Fenner Funeral Home. Inc. Interment with military honors will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Herkimer.
