HERKIMER - Elaine Acker age 63 of Westwood Drive, passed away on Thursday October 13, 2011 in Faxton-St. Lukes Medical Center, New Hartford. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side.
She was born on February 21, 1948 in Herkimer, daughter of the late Leslie D. and Dorothy Hoepfner Dryer. A lifelong Herkimer resident, she was a graduate of Herkimer High School with the class of 1967. On July 7, 1968 she was united in marriage with Frank Acker Jr. in the Herkimer Reformed Church. The Reverend Forest Decker officiated.
For twenty years Mrs. Acker worked as a Institutional Aide at the Country Manor in the town of Herkimer. She retired on July 29th of this year.
Elaine had a strong faith in God and was a lifelong member of the Herkimer Reformed Church. As a young girl she was a member of Silver Triangle and was active in Girl Scouting. To all who knew her, they will remember her as a caring, compassionate and strong willed person. Any conversation with her was straight and to the point but she always left you with a feeling of warmth and friendship. Elaine was a family oriented woman, she was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family especially her four cherished grandchildren. She will be sorely missed.
Surviving are her devoted husband of forty-three years Frank, one son Tim and his wife Chris Acker of Herkimer, a daughter, Lisa Karpowich and her companion Terrance Oczkowski of Frankfort, four grandchildren, Colin and Logan Acker of Herkimer, Tyler and Kylee Karpowich of Frankfort, several nieces, nephews, cousins and Uncle Lee. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Leslie H. Dryer this past December.
Calling hours for Mrs. Acker will be in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer on Monday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm with a funeral service to follow at 7:00 pm in the funeral home. The Reverend Mark Andersen, pastor of the Herkimer Reformed Church will officiate. Interment in Oak Hill Cemetery will be announced at a later time
Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to, the Steven Swan Humane Society, Herkimer County Humane Society or the Thomas Lindsey Memorial Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
