HERKIMER-Elaine Nelli McCumber Fields, age 85, went home to be with the Lord, peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday evening December 22, 2015 in Valley Health Services, Inc. She was born on July 12, 1930, in Nebraska, and in 1948 was married to Clarence Fields. Nelli was a familiar face and longtime employee of Dan Dee Dounuts in Little Falls and later when they moved the store to Herkimer. She was well known and became a good friend to many of their regular customers. Mrs. Fields retired in 1995, after thirty years of dedicated service. Mrs. Fields had a special place in heart for dogs and always had one around until she went into assisted living. She had resided at Colonial Manor before moving to Valley Health Services, Inc. where she stayed for the past several years. In her leisure time she enjoyed listening to country music, playing bingo and doing arts and crafts. She will always be remembered for her warm, caring and friendly manner. She will be truly missed. Surviving are her four children, Judy Cook and Robert Fields both of Herkimer, Karen Fields and Nancy Fields both of Illinois, three cherished grandchildren, Robert Cook and Raymond Hamilton both of Herkimer, Brittany Bertone of Oneonta. Besides her parents and husband Clarence she was preceded in death by two children, Rosemary Fields and Clarence Eugene Fields. Mrs. Fields family will be present to receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 am in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc. 115 Court Street; Herkimer. A funeral service will follow immediately after in the funeral home at 11:00 am. The Reverend Quy N. Vo, Pastor of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church will officiate. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery next spring. Nellis family would like to thank all the nurses and doctors at Valley Health Services for the dedication and care shown to Nelli.
