RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Eleanor Armstrong Gravelding, 83, of Union Street, entered into eternal rest Tuesday night, May 13, 2003, in VanAllen Nursing Home, Little Falls. She was born July 27, 1919, in the town of Warren, daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Jones) Armstrong. A lifelong Richfield Springs resident, she graduated from Richfield Springs High School. On Nov. 13, 1937, she married Francis Gravelding in St. John's Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs, a loving and devoted union of 45 years. He preceded her in death in March of 1983. For 30 years, Mrs. Gravelding worked in the cafeteria of Richfield Springs Central School. She retired in 1989.Eleanor had a strong belief in God and led a devoted Episcopal life. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs.She leaves two sons and their wives, Richard and Alice Gravelding of Richfield Springs and Philip and Mary Lou Gravelding of Owego; one daughter, Carol Chamberlain of Fort Plain; two sisters, Elda Sheldon Leland of Richfield Springs and Hazel Parsons of Sidney; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.Besides her parents and husband, Francis, she was preceded in death by her brother, Harry Armstrong.Funeral service will be Monday at 11 a.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 W. James St., Richfield Springs. The Rev. John Dixon Bartle, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church, will officiate. Mrs. Gravelding will be laid to rest in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs.The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 7-9 p.m.Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
