ILION-Eleanor May Whalen age 87 of London Towers passed away on Monday evening September 20, 2010 in Saint Lukes Nursing Home, New Hartford.
She was born on October 9, 1922 in Fulton, daughter of the late Lee and Mary Henner Wright. Eleanor was raised in Fultonwhere she was a graduate of Fulton High School. On February 7, 1948 she was united in marriage with William Whalen in the Central MethodistChurch in Utica. They shared a loving and devoted union of forty-three years until his passing in 1999. Bill and Eleanor spent a good share of their married life on the west coast where he worked in construction. She held various clerical jobs, working as a secretary in the many different places that they lived. She retired in 1987 and in 1991 moved to Ilion coming from California.
To her many friends at London Towers she will always be remembered as a loving, caring and hopeful person who will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her brother-in-law and sister in-law, Victor and Alice Whalen of Mohawk and her cherished niece, Robin Mosher of Gloversville. Besides her parents and husband William she was preceded in death by her son Brian Hunter Whalen in 1976.
At Mrs. Whalens request her funeral service and interment in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro were private and at the convenience of the family.
