It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Elizabeth Catherine Spellman, 78, a lifelong resident of Herkimer, who passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown, NY.
Liz was born on January 23, 1947, in Utica, NY, the daughter of the late Raymond and Beatrice (Waldvogel) Beswick. She was raised in Herkimer and graduated from Herkimer High School class of 1965. Liz then furthered her education at Manpower in Utica, receiving her LPN. She was a lifelong nurse starting at Herkimer Memorial Hospital and ending her career at Folts Home, retiring in 2018 after 40 years of faithful service. She was a devout Episcopalian, a member of the vestry at Christ Episcopal Church, Herkimer until its unfortunate closing. Liz was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, mother in law, and friend. She lived her life in such a way that no one ever felt left out or forgotten. Liz was a cat lover, game night enthusiast, Red Hat group founder, and a holiday fanatic.
Liz is survived by her loving children Steven Adamek and his wife Stephanie, Barrington, RI, Sheila Steere, Deerfield, NY, Jason Adamek and his wife Lisa, Herkimer, NY, Christopher Spellman and his wife Leeanne, Newport, NY, sister and best friend Barbara Bigney, Nova Scotia, Canada, adored grandchildren Daniel, Morgan, Mackenzie, Erin, Madesen, Beatrice, Denten, Colin, Logen, and Vivian, special great granddaughters Adley and Brynlee, along with several nieces, nephews, friends and a special feline companion Buddy.
Visitation for family and friends is Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 4-7PM at Fenner Funeral Home, Inc, 115 Court Street, Herkimer, NY. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Elizabeth's Funeral Mass on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 10AM at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 588 Albany Street, Little Falls. She will be laid to rest beside her loving parents at Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills.
