Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Elizabeth Eggleston, age 84 of Elm Street, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 20, 2007 in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side. She was born on September 24, 1923, in Paines Hollow, a daughter of the late Louis John and Hazel Annabel Scott Clements. A lifelong area resident, she was raised and educated in Richfield Springs. On Mau 29, 1948, she was united in marriage to Elvin Carlton Eggleston in St. Johns Episcopal Church. A loving and devoted union of 30 years until his passing on January 30, 1978. For many years she had worked locally as a nurses aide, retiring in 1963. Betty had a strong belief in God and was a faithful member of St. Johns Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs, where she had served as Past President of the Women of St. Johns. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. In her leisure time she enjoyed playing bingo and had an extensive collection of Betty Boop memorabilia. She will always be remembered as an outgoing person, who was strong willed but had a heart of gold. She was happiest when surrounded by her family. She enjoyed her many travels throughout the country and abroad with her sons. Her love will be forever cherished and she will be greatly missed. Surviving are her three sons and their wives, James and Jennifer Eggleston of Easton, PA, Gerald and Terri Eggleston of Gilbert, AZ, Thomas and Betty Eggleston of Richfield Springs, 2 sisters, Louise Ainsworth, Nancy Conkling and her husband William all of Herkimer, one sister-in-law Gertrude Mang of Mohawk, a brother-in-law Donald Eggleston of Ilion, seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband Elvin, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Louis Clements, Jr., and Frederick Clements, and a sister Florence Loomis. Funeral service with Holy Eucharist from the Book of Common Prayer will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am in Saint Johns Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs. The Reverend John Dixon Bartle, Rector, will officiate. Interment will follow in Mohawk Cemetery. The family will be present in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs, to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9p.m. As an alternative to flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to St. Johns Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs, of the Richfield Springs Rescue Emergency Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
