HERKIMER - Elizabeth J. Grose age 93 of 105 Protection Avenue passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday morning October 7, 2008 in her home. She was born on December 6, 1914 in Little Falls, daughter of the late Paul and Anna Krchniak Janeka. A lifelong area resident she was a graduate of Herkimer High School with the class of 1934. For seventeen years Mrs. Grose worked as a nurses aide for the Herkimer Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1976. She had a strong belief in God and was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer. In her leisure time she enjoyed reading. Elizabeth was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. Surviving are her three daughters, Shirley and her husband Ralph Reid of Fort Plain, Patricia and her husband Thomas Bake of Pueblo, CO, Dorothy Matis of Frankfort, a sister Christine Woods of Mohawk, eleven grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Doreen Matis, two brothers, Pvt. Steve Janeka in WW II, and Paul Janeka, three sisters, Katherine Wick, Suzanne Woods and Anne Grainger. The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer on Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 pm. Her funeral service and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
