MOHAWK-Elizabeth Amy Harter age 62 passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, March 2, 2021 at the Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. She was born on July 14, 1958 in Huntington, Long Island, daughter of the late Peter Alois and Ada Marion Zoll Willis. Elizabeth was raised on Long Island and was a graduate of Patchogue-Medford High School. She furthered her education at Jamestown Business College and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from SUNY Cobleskill. On July 6, 1985 she was united in marriage to Todd Jay Harter in the Fort Herkimer Dutch Reformed Church in German Flatts. It was that year she and Todd moved to Paines Hollow and raised their family. Prior to her marriage, she was employed with the New York State Dept. of Taxation. From 1993 to 2018 she owned and operated Elizabeth's Country Garden Greenhouse in Little Falls. Mrs. Harter had a true belief in God and was a member of the Paines Hollow United Methodist Church. She had served as a Lay Pastor for both the PainesHollow and Cedar Lake United Methodist Churches. Elizabeth will always be remembered for her strong sense of community. She was active with the Meals on Wheels Program, Catholic Charities, and was a Hospice Volunteer. More recently she was a student at the Onondaga School of Therapeutic Massage in Rochester. All who knew her will forever remember a caring, loving and helpful lady with an unforgettable smile. She will be sadly missed by her many friends and family, especially her cherished grandchildren.
Surviving are her loving husband of thirty-six years, Todd, one son, Donald T. Harter and his wife Jennifer A. of Rochester, a daughter, Heather D. Ritton and her husband Michael D. of Ilion, one brother Peter Michael Willis of SC, five sisters, Mary Ellen Bailey of SC, Patricia Ann Davis of Mohawk, Kathy S, Willis of Dolgeville, Lynn Ruth O'Brien of Little Falls, Gail Jean Tubbs of Little Falls, a sister-in-law, Tina Willis of FL, eight grandchildren, Rae, Alois, Madisen, Mackenzie, Camron, Leah, Charlie and Julia, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Todd Peter Willis.
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family and a graveside service will take place later this spring in Oak Hill Cemetery. A Celebration of Elizabeth's Life will be held at a time to be announced. A "Celebration of Life" for Elizabeth Amy Harter, age 62, who passed away on March 2, 2021, will be held on Saturday July 17th at 3:00 p.m. at their home in Paines Hollow followed by fellowship and a BBQ. You may contact Todd or the funeral home for further information.
