HERKIMER-The Reverend Elizabeth Betty Mosher age 91 of East German Street Extension, entered into eternal rest unexpectedly on Sunday evening June 8, 2003 in her home.
She was born on January 30, 1912 in Boston, MA daughter of the late Eliza Boinnard. Betty was raised in Snyder and graduated high school there. She furthered her education graduating from the Baptist Bible Seminary in Johnson City. It was there she met Edwin Mosher a divinity student. After their graduation they were wed. Mr. Mosher answered the call to become a Episcopal Priest while Betty was a substitute teacher, homemaker, mother and worked along side her husband in his ministry. Reverend Mosher passed away in 1972.
In 1975 she came to Herkimer from Gilbertsville and made her home with her dear friend Elinor Barnes. Mrs. Mosher became an active member of Christ Episcopal Church, Herkimer. She belonged to Saint Marys Guild, the Altar Guild, taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir and was always available to help with the pie making projects of the church. At one time she was a Girl Scout Leader with the Foot Hills Council of the Girl Scouts of America.
Her strong belief in God led her to become an ordained Deacon of the Episcopal Church at the age of eighty-seven years. She maintained an active ministry in the church to the time of her passing.
She will always be remembered as a loving, caring and hopeful person who gloried in the presence of her five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Surviving are one son; Dr. James A. Mosher, PHD. And his wife Denise of Williamsport, MD, a daughter; Susan Wainwright and her husband Robert of Cooper City, FL, five grandchildren; Heather Klein, Robert and Christopher Wainwright, Sarah Jackson and Rebecca Mosher, two great grandchildren; Gregory Jackson and Anastasia Klein, her dear friend Elinor Barnes along with several nieces and nephews. The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 until 9:00 pm.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Christ Episcopal Church, Herkimer on Thursday at 11:00 am. The Right Reverend Daniel Herzog, Bishop of the Albany Diocese of the Episcopal Church and the Reverend Paul Bailey, Rector of Christ Episcopal Church will officiate. Reverend Mosher will then be laid to rest beside her husband in the Brookside Cemetery, Gilbertsville on Thursday at 3:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Christ Episcopal Church Memorial Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
