Obituary

WEST EXETER-Elmer M. Bond age 79 of Munson Road passed away unexpectedly on Sunday August 28, 2005 in his home. He was born on August 13, 1926 in Pulaski son of the late Jesse and Blanche Wescott Bond. A lifelong area resident he was raised and educated in Schuyler Lake. An honorably discharged veteran of World War Two he had served in the US Navy. On July 22, 1948 he was united in marriage with Bertha Aplin in Beltsville, MD. A loving and devoted union of fifty years she died on March 8, 1999. Mr. Bond was a builder by trade. He had owned and operated Bond Construction Company in West Exeter and had built many homes in the New Hartford area. He retired in 1989 after 35 years of being in business. In his leisure time he enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a former member of the Schuyler Lake Fire Department and Hugick, Purcell & Shepard American Legion Post # 616 Richfield Springs. Many of Elmers happiest moments were when he was surrounded by his many friends and family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. Surviving him are two sons, Philip Bond Sr., Kenneth and his wife Elizabeth Bond all of West Exeter, two daughters, Wanda and her husband Richard Inman of Mohawk, Linda Bond and her companion Robert Graepel of Richfield Springs, one sister Evie and her husband Harry Barber of Ilion, fourteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents and wife Bertha, four brothers and four sisters preceded him in death. Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 6:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. The Reverend John Young will officiate. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 4:00 until 6:00 pm. Mr. Bond will be laid to rest with his wife in West Exeter Cemetery on Thursday morning at 11:00 am. Expressions of sympathy may be made with donations to the West Exeter First Responders. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
