Obituary

SCHUYLER LAKE - Elmer Louis "Bud" Buell, 74, of Church Street, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. He was born July 1, 1930, in Exeter Center, son of the late Kenneth and Catherine Hadsell Buell. A lifelong area resident, Bud was raised and educated in Ilion and Schuyler Lake. He has resided in Schuyler Lake since 1943. On Oct. 22, 1950, he married the former Loretta Kinney in the West Exeter United Methodist Church. They made their home and raised their family in Schuyler Lake. For 14 years Mr. Buell worked as a groundskeeper for the Leatherstocking Golf Course in Cooperstown, retiring in 1995.He had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Schuyler Lake United Methodist Church. A volunteer firefighter, he was a charter member of the Schuyler Lake Volunteer Fire Department. His leisure time was spent gardening, cooking, hunting and playing golf. Bud was happiest when he was surrounded by is many friends and family, especially his 15 grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.Surviving are his beloved wife of 53 years, Loretta; five sons, Clifford and his wife Lorri Buell of Burlington Flats, Daniel and his wife Anna of New Berlin, Randall Buell of West Winfield, Christopher and his wife Marianne Buell of Schenectady and Timothy Buell of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one daughter, Peggy and her husband Donald Oldick Jr. of Richfield Springs; three brothers and their wives, Charles and Joyce Buell of Clinton, Kenneth Jr. and Diane Buell of Burlington Flats and Ronald and Joan Buell of Palm Bay, Fla.; four sisters, Eleanor and her husband Frank Madaras of Richfield Springs, Esther and her husband William Ludemann of Schuyler Lake, Lela Reed of Fly Creek and Cathy and her husband Alex Melinczenko of Fly Creek; a brother-in-law, James Truex of Schuyler Lake; 15 grandchildren, Tyler, Carly, Adam, Katherine, Nicollette and special friend, Jason, Kori, Samantha, Emily, Derek, Brittany, Jesse and Kara Buell, Amanda, Don III "DJ" and Cody Oldick; many nieces, nephews and cousins.Besides his parents, a sister, Janice Truex, preceded him in death.Funeral service will take place on Saturday at 11 a.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs. Interment will follow in Schuyler Lake Cemetery.The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Friday (today) from 6-8 p.m.Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Schuyler Lake Volunteer Fire Department or the Louis Busch Hager Patients Assistance Fund, Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.
