HERKIMER - Elnora D. Maxfield, 87, of 104 North Washington St. and formerly of Highland Avenue, passed away on Sunday morning, Nov. 27, 2005, in Folts Homes.
She was born April 9, 1918, in the town of Fairfield, daughter of the late Howard Walter and Blanche Mirl Grower Comstock. A lifelong area resident, she was raised in Gray and was a graduate of Poland High School. On Nov. 12, 1938, she married Stanley Comstock in Herkimer, a loving and devoted union of 34 years until his passing on Oct. 1, 1972. For 10 years, Mrs. Maxfield had worked as a clerk for Standard Furniture Co. in Herkimer, retiring in 1965. On Feb. 6, 1984, she married Frank Maxfield in Herkimer. Elnora had a strong belief in God and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Herkimer. She at one time was a member of Myrtle Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving besides her husband, Frank, are one son, Martin Dutch Comstock of East Herkimer; two daughters and their husbands, Donna and David Ince of Lopez Island, Wash., Ardith and Donovan Dersham of Seneca Castle; one brother, Bartow Comstock of Utica; seven grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and first husband, Stanley, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Heather Ince, in 1998. Funeral service will be on Friday at 2 p.m. in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer. The Rev. Patricia Lawrence, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Herkimer, will officiate. A spring interment will take place in Mountain View Memorial Gardens, town of Little Falls. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the funeral service (1-2 p.m.) Expressions of sympathy may be made to the First Baptist Church, Herkimer.
