Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Elwin Bert Duncan age 76 formerly of 50 West Main Street; Milford passed away peacefully on Saturday March 8, 2014 in the Otsego Manor Cooperstown. He had the support and comfort of his loving family at his side.He was born on February 2, 1938 in Schuyler Lake, son of the late Edward Sr. and Sarah VanBuren Duncan. A lifelong area resident he was educated in Schuyler Lake and Richfield Springs public schools. Mr. Duncan had worked as a dairy farmer and for seven years was also a machinist for the Shur-Katch Fish and Tackle in Richfield Springs. He retired in 1969. Over the years he along with other members of his family respectfully cared for both Schuyler Lake Cemetery in the town of Exeter and Lakeview Cemetery in Richfield Springs. A resident of Hartwick for many years, he moved to Milford in 2005. To those who knew Elwin, they will always remember his love for country music. He was an accomplished guitarist playing and singing with various country bands in the area. He had a strong faith in God and praised him with many old familiar hymns, especially Amazing Grace. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family. Surviving are two sons, Claude Duncan and his fianc Tina Aney of West Edmeston, Elwin W. Duncan and his wife Tabitha of Herkimer, two daughters and their husbands, Kittypearl and William Miller of Cooperstown, Malinda and David Burdick of Richfield Springs, a brother, Raymond Duncan and his wife Helen of Richfield Springs, two sisters, Isabelle Garbera-Krish of Oneonta and Elizabeth Sparks of Herkimer, fifteen grandchildren, many great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by granddaughter Sheena Burdick, six brothers and one sister. Calling hours for Mr. Duncan will be on Wednesday from 5:00 until 7:00 pm, in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm in the funeral home with the Reverend Alan Miller officiating.Interment will take place at a later time convenient to the family. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Catskill Area Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
