Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Elwood John Emo Laymon,age 73, of Main Street, passed away quietly on Tuesday morning February 22, 2011 in Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown. He was born on February 3, 1938, in Cooperstown, son of the late Earl and Julia Wilsey Laymon. Emo was raised and educated in Richfield Springs.For thirty-nine years he worked as a maintenance man for the Otsego County Highway Department, retiring in 1985. Mr. Laymon had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Church of Christ Uniting in Richfield Springs.He was a volunteer firefighter with the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department for over twenty-seven years.In his leisure time he enjoyed bowling. He bowled with several leagues in the area and was proud of the many trophies that he had won. To all who knew him he will be remembered as a fixture on Main Street. Throughout the years he sat on his favorite park bench and enjoyed all the wonderful sights and got to know everyone in town.He was a friend to many and will never be forgotten. Surviving him are two brothers, Edward Laymon and his wife Donna of Seattle, WA, Elmer Layman of Long Island, one sister, Evelyn Nelson of Utica, several nieces, nephews and cousins.Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Ernest Laymon and two sisters, Edith Robinson and Ella Laymon. Funeral service will be on Saturday at11:00 am in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs.Calling hours will be from 9:00 until 11:00 am (two hours prior to the service). Memorial donations may be made to the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department.Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
