Obituary

HERKIMER - Emily S. Baxter "Tess" age 80 formerly of Cherry Valley entered into eternal rest on Wednesday afternoon May 12, 2004 in Folts Homes, Herkimer. She was born on September 10, 1923 in Little Falls daughter of the late Jay and Cora Patterson Doxstader. A lifelong area resident she was raised in Dolgeville and graduated from Dolgeville High School. She furthered her education at Excelsior Business School, Utica plus training on Real Estate Appraisal and Business Management. Emily was first married to Michael Sedor. From 1947 to 1962 they owned and operated Sedors Sporting Goods Store in Dolgeville. From 1964 until 1969 she sold real estate under the name of Sedors Reality in the town of Maryland. She also had served as Chairman of the Board of Assessors filling the vacancy created by her husbands untimely death in 1973 as well as Assessor for the town of Maryland. On August 29, 1975 she married Roland J. Baxter in the Sharon Springs United Methodist Church. Mr. Baxter passed away on June 19, 1977. In later years Emily worked as a waitress at the Tryon Inn in Cherry Valley, retiring in 1996. Mrs. Baxter has resided at Folts Homes since March of this year coming from the Country Manor on Middleville Road in the town of Herkimer.. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Cherry Valley, Wiontha Rebekah Lodge, Schenevus Valley Grange and an Honorary Life Member of the Dolgeville Rod and Gun Club, Inc. Emily will always be remembered as a loving, caring and hopeful person. She lived life to the fullest. She enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing and was specially known for her great cooking. She will be greatly missed by many especially her family. Surviving are two stepsons, Thomas Baxter of Sharon Springs, Bruce and his wife Debra Baxter of Cobleskill, one stepdaughter. Linda and her husband Bernard Floor of Syracuse and Florida, two brothers and their wives, Emory John and Nila Doxstader, Donald and June Doxstader all of Dolgeville, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husbands Michael and Roland two brothers and five sisters preceded her in death. It was Mrs. Baxters wish that services be private and at the convenience of the family. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.
