FAIRPORT - Emily L. Sheckells, 90, of Nine Mile Point Road, passed away on Tuesday morning, January 9, 2001 in the Fairport Baptist Home where she has resided since 1993.
Born on March 20, 1910 in Newport, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Mina Ireland Lowther. She was raised and educated in Newport. On July 5, 1932 she married the Reverend Doctor Albert W. Sheckells in the First Baptist Church Herkimer. A loving union of forty-five years until his passing on April 7, 1978. During the years of their marriage they resided in Herkimer, Middletown, Providence Road, RI and Bridgeport, CT, where Dr. Sheckells had served as church pastor and in Massachusetts and New York where he was Director of Christian Education for the American Baptist Churches. She had a strong belief in God and lived a devoted Christian Life. She was a member of the Park Central Church, Syracuse; she was a Sunday school teacher, a member of Churchwomen United American Baptist Ministers Wives, Leader of the Guild Houseparty and Leader of Camps and Crafts. She enjoyed her garden flowers and doing crafts. She will always be remembered as a loving and caring person and will be missed by her family and friends.
Surviving her are one son, Stephen F. and his wife Diane S. Sheckells of Kinston, New Hampshire; two daughters, Jane Ann Sheckells of State College, PA, Mina and her husband Ronald West of Syracuse; two sister-in-laws Marjorie Lowther of East Herkimer, Naomi MacIntyre of St. Petersburg, FL; four grandchildren two great grandchildren; four nieces; two nephews and a cousin. Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a brother Robert N. Lowther.
A graveside service in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer will take place later this spring with the Reverend Jeremy L. Spencer, pastor of the First Baptist Church Herkimer officiating.
