CEDARVILLE - Emma Irene Townsend age 85 of State Highway # 51 passed away unexpectedly in her home on Tuesday December 31, 2013.
Irene was born on March 30, 1928 in the Town of Columbia, daughter of the late Daniel and Eva VanderWalker Gage.A lifelong resident of Cedarville, she was a graduate of West Winfield High School.
She was first united in marriage to Gerald Woodard.He passed away in 1956.She later married Arthur Townsend who preceded her in death in 1977.
Mrs. Townsend was primarily a homemaker, in her leisure time she enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Her outside activities included memberships in the Millers Mills Grange, the Richfield Springs American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Cedarville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.Irene had a strong faith in God and was a member of the Millers Mills Baptist Church.
To those who knew her she was a loving, caring and helpful lady.She was totally devoted to her home and family and was always there for them, in good times or bad.Irene will be greatly missed by her many friends and family, especially her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving are one son, Danny Woodard and his wife Deborah of West Winfield, a daughter, Linda Dufloe of Richfield Springs, three grandchildren, Sean Woodard, Melissa Woodard and Trisha Tynan and her husband Joshua, four great grandchildren, Peyton Tynan, Trevor Woodard, Katarina Woodard and Caleb Barber, several nieces including special niece Betty Jane Neale of Ilion, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husbands Gerald and Arthur, she was predeceased by two brothers, Leon and Arthur Gage, one sister Eleanor Harter.
Funeral service for Mrs. Townsend will be on Friday at 1:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs.The Reverend Mark Ioset, pastor of the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs, will officiate.Interment will be later this spring in Cedarville Cemetery.There are no calling hours.
Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Cedarville Volunteer Fire Department or their Ladies Auxiliary. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
