Herkimer Ernest Ernie Frank Upson, age 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 30, 2017, at Mohawk Valley Health Care Center. He was born on August 27, 1926, in the town of Schuyler, son of the late Frank R. and Anna B Adsit Upson. He was raised and educated in Schuyler at Minott Corner a one room school house, graduating from Frankfort High School with the class of 1944. Farming was his life occupation. On August 11, 1973, he was united in married to Lois Jean WIndecker in Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Little Falls. A loving and devoted marriage of thirty-seven years until her passing on April 21, 2011, together they shared a love of square dancing, reading and traveling throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. Ernie was a member of the Mohawk Reformed Church, Mohawk Valley Squares, and a former member of the East Schuyler Grange. To those who knew him he was a kind, soft spoken man who showed compassion to all. Surviving are nine nieces and nephews, Michael Zelie, of Tonawanda, Denise (Jack) Hopkins of Homasassa, FL, James (Nettie) Blunt of Deerfield, Eunice Zoeckler of Clinton, Marcia (David) Lasher of Dunnellon, FL, Carolyn (Gerald) Winfield and Janice Cook both of Waterville, Joanne Blunt of Endicott, Gary Blunt of Frankfort, sister and brother in laws, Barbara Daley of Herkimer, Robert J. Windecker of Little Falls, William E. Windecker of St. Johnsville, many great nieces, nephews, several cousins, friends and his church family. Besides his parents and wife Jean, he was preceded in death by his only daughter, Katherine Marie in 1981, two sisters, Helen Zelie and Clara Tolpa , three nephews, Vernon and Roger Tyson, and John Blunt. The family would like to extend a special thank you to MVHCC second floor staff for the care and compassion shown to their uncle. A Funeral service will be held on Friday at noon in the Mohawk Reformed Church. Reverend Brian Engle, Pastor will officiate. The family will be present in the church on Friday from 11:00 am until noon, (one hour prior to the service) to greet friends. Memorial donations may be made to the Mohawk Reformed Church or the Herkimer County Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the church.
