Obituary

HERKIMER-Eugene R. DiLoreto age 90 of Gray Street passed away on Tuesday March 11, 2014 in Faxton-Saint Lukes Medical Center, New Hartford. He had the comfort and support of his loving family and close friends at his side. He was born of April 15, 1923 in Canajoharie, son of the late Pasquale and Anna T. Forcucci DiLoreto. Gene was a graduate of Canajoharie High School. An honorably discharged US Army veteran he served proudly during World War II. Mr. DiLoreto was first married to Lucy Liacono who preceded him in death on October 27, 1979. On March 10, 1983 he was united in marriage with the former E. Jean Mayton. They shared a devoted union of twenty-six years until her passing on March 14, 2009. For over twenty years Gene worked as a sales representative for Letter Memorials in Johnstown and Oneonta. Mr. DiLoreto had a strong faith in God and was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer. He was a member of the Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post #25, Mohawk, a past member of the American Legion Post in Canajoharie, a member of the Last Mans Club, Canajoharie and a former member of the Herkimer Elks Lodge # 1439. To all who knew Gene, they will never forget a down to earth man with a good sense of humor. He enjoyed walking daily and would not hesitate to stop and visit with anyone that he met along the way. He enjoyed playing cards and rarely turned down a chance to join in a game of poker. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving him is his daughter, Diana Maring of Johnstown, a son, Alan DiLoreto of Littleton, CO, one sister, Evelyn Burgess of Memphis, TN, three grandchildren, Rebecca LaLonde (Brian) of Johnstown, Jason Maring (Melissa) of Moretown, VT, Bethany DiLoreto, four great grandchildren, Alyssa LaLonde, Josh LaLonde, Lucy Maring and Ruby Maring, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours for Mr. DiLoreto, will be on Thursday March 27, 2014 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. A funeral service will follow the calling hours at 3:00pm with the Reverend Janet Gleason officiating. Interment with military honors will be later this spring in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Canajoharie. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Hospice & Palliative Care, New Hartford or the Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
