RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Eunice M. Moxley age 95 of County Highway # 24 passed away peacefully on Saturday evening January 25, 2014 in Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side.
She was born on March 24, 1918 in Braintree, VT, daughter of the late John B. and Mabel Woodworth Hutchinson. Eunice was raised and educated in Peth, VT. On September 5, 1937 she was united in marriage with Verne H. Moxley in East Randolph, VT. They shared a devoted union of sixty-six years until his passing on July 27, 2004. They first made their home in East Randolph where Mrs. Moxley worked in a rest home and Verne hauled logs from Vermont thru New York State. On one of his trips, he discovered a lovely, quiet town where he & Eunice could settle down. In 1942 they moved to Richfield Springs, NY where she worked first for the Palmer House hotel in town, Remington Arms Company in Ilion, then later for the Mercury Newspaper in Richfield Springs. She stopped working outside the home in 1943 to raise her family.
Mrs. Moxley had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Richfield Springs Bible Church. She thoroughly loved her church family and the many activities of the church.She loved going to church holding the arm of a son or grandchild. At one time she was very active with the 4-H Club. Her leisure and relaxation time were sewing and doing upholstery work. To all who knew her, family and home were her priority. Cherished are those memories of the warm aromas that came from her kitchen and the wonderful meals that only she could prepare. She will be truly missed by her many friends and family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving are one son, Fred Moxley and his wife Janet of Shippensburg, PA, two daughters and their husbands, Barbara and Arthur Christman of Astoria, Queens, Rita and Gary Dawson of Cortland, six grandchildren, Laura Heberer and her husband Bruce of Johnstown, Scott Scriven and his wife Kim of Sandy Hook, CT, Tyler Moxley of Shippensburg, PA, Sarah Covell and her husband Andy of Saint Thomas, PA, Danielle Campbell and her husband Sean of Saratoga Springs, Terry Dawson and his wife Patty of Cortland, six great grandchildren, Joshua, Eric, Wesley, Raina, Bailey and Livia. Besides her parents and husband Verne she was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred, Frank and Richard Hutchinson and a sister Nellie Cloudman.
Calling hours for Mrs. Moxley will be on Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs. Funeral service will be on Saturday at 11:00 am in the Richfield Springs Bible Church with the Reverend David Tosi, Pastor officiating. Interment will take place later this Spring in Lakeview Cemetery.
