Obituary

Eva Hawrylchak, 94, of Richfield Springs, died on Monday, February 27, 2017 Born Eva Bureychak, on April 21, 1922 in the town of Radocyna, a village in the foothills of the Carpathian mountains, in an area of what was then the USSR. At the age of 16, Eva immigrated to New York City to live with her step-brother, Dmytro Demianowych and his family in 1939. She married Michael Hawrylchak, who was from a neighboring village, Brunary Vyzhny, in 1945 in New York City and subsequently moved to Richfield Springs, NY in 1948 where they raised four children and owned and operated a dairy farm for over 30 years. Eva was an avid gardener for many years, and enjoyed growing many varieties of flowers. She had an intense love for the family farm, animals and the out of doors. In addition, she enjoyed sharing her Russian culture and heritage with her children and grandchildren through cooking and baking traditional dishes. Eva was predeceased by her daughter Joanne in 1978 and her husband, Michael, in 1982, and her brother, Dmytro, in 2007. She is survived by: her younger brother, Fedyo (Ria) Bureychak, one sister, Mary Bureychak & two nephews, Sergay and Vitale Bureychak & their families all of Lviv, Ukraine. She is also survived by two sons, George (Sandy) Hawrylchak of Albany, NY, & Steven Hawrylchak of Richfield Springs; and her daughter Mariane (James) McLaughlin of Syracuse. Eva is also survived by nine grandchildren: Anya (Josh) Katteff of New Hampshire, Michael (Amy) Hawrylchak of Albany, NY, Lara (Michael) Cox of California, Shana Hawrylchak of Boston, Ma, Nick (Jocelyn) Hawrylchak of Lockhaven, Pa, Megan (Jamie) Nadler of Buffalo, Allison McLaughlin of Buffalo, Leslie McLaughlin of San Francisco, CA and Shannon McLaughlin of Syracuse, NY. Eva also has five great grandchildren, Nadia, Adam and Levi & Elena Hawrylchak of Albany, NY and Benjamin Nadler of Buffalo, NY.?Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:00 am in Saints Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church, Herkimer. There are no calling hours. Interment in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Herkimer will take place later this spring. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care.
