HERKIMER-Evelyn T. Harney age 85 of 104 North Washington Street formerly of Gray Street passed away on Friday morning April 26, 2002 in Little Falls Hospital.
She was born on June 9, 1916 in Stafford Springs, CT daughter of the late Ralph Gile and Jessie Campbell Taylor. She was raised and educated in Moira, NY. On September 6, 1944 she married John Joseph Harney in Utica. They were residents of Herkimer since 1947. For twenty-seven years she worked at Marcy State Hospital, retiring on January 18, 1973.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer, The Civil Service Employees Association, Crestwood Golf Club, Mohawk Valley W.B.A., The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, A.A.R.P and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees AFL-CIO.
She had many loving friends here and in Ormond Beach, FL where they maintained a winter home for twenty years, She was always looking to her next adventure especially if it included country music, bingo card games, clothes, "eating out" or dancing. Her husband will remember their travel and cruises. She was the life of many a party and places and often said her life was a good one.
Surviving are her husband of fifty-seven years John Joseph, her daughter and son-in-law; Patricia and James Peta of Hartford, CT a granddaughter Jayme Lynn Peta of Boulder, CO, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents she was predeceased by a brother James in World War II and her grandson James Joseph Peta III in 1994.
Funeral service and interment are private at her request. Please honor her wish for no flowers. Memorial donations may be made in her name to Claxton Manor, 104 North Washington Street, Herkimer, NY 13350 where she was nurtured and loved by staff and residents for the past two years. She loved them in return. Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home Inc., Herkimer.
