Obituary

HERKIMER-Evelyn Janeka age 94 of South Bellinger Street passed away peacefully on Saturday morning July 23, 2011 in Katherine Luther Nursing Home, Clinton. She was born on February 10, 1917 in Mohawk, daughter of the late Samuel and Pearl Teeter Crim. A lifelong Herkimer resident she graduated from Herkimer High School with the class of 1935. On June 5, 1937 she was united in marriage with Paul Janeka in the Mohawk United Methodist Church. They shared a loving and devoted union of over forty-eight years until his passing on April 13, 1986. Evelyn spent a good share of her life working outside of the home. During World War Two she worked for a company that manufactured parachutes, she worked as a nurses aide at the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home in Ilion and for many years she was a technician at the General Electric Company in Utica. She retired in 1974. Mrs. Janeka was of the Methodist faith and was a member of Evening Valley Star Chapter # 82, Order of the Eastern Star. Evelyn will always be remembered as a warm, caring and loving person with an unforgettable smile. She was a dear friend to many and will be greatly missed. Surviving are her daughter, JoAnn Blaise and her husband Gary of Ilion, one son Paul Janeka of Herkimer, two cherished grandchildren, Kristin Blaise of Tyler, TX, Chad Blaise and his wife Tara of Tacoma Park, MD, one great grandchild, Ella Blaise and a nephew William Crim. Besides her parents and husband Paul, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Crim. Calling hours for Mrs. Janeka will be in Fenner Funeral Home inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer on Monday August 1st, from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon, with a funeral service to follow, commencing at 12:00 noon. The Reverend Norman J. Heid will officiate. Interment will follow in Mohawk Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
