HERKIMER - Evelyn Lawson, age 89, of Margaret Street, passed away on Sunday afternoon May 5, 2002, in the Masonic Home, Utica. She was born on September 4, 1912, in Brooklyn, daughter of the late Bernard and Gertrude Newman Frey. Mrs. Lawson was raised in Brooklyn, graduated high school there and went on to graduate from business school in New York. On March 12, 1931 she married Louis B. Lawson in Queens, a devoted union of forty-seven years until his passing in 1978. For many years she worked the Continental Baking Company in Queens, retiring in 1978. She had a strong belief in God and led a devoted Christian life. She was a member of Valley Stream Chapter # 840 Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving are one son, Evan and his wife Linda Lawson of East Herkimer; a brother, Bernard Frey of Richmond Hill, Queens; four grandchildren, Kelly and her husband William Hartmann of Macon, GA, Brian Lawson and his companion Tammy of Cedarville, Heather Lawson and her companion Jeff of Little Falls, Kevin and his wife Rachel Lawson of Mooresville, NC; four great grandchildren, Joshua Hartmann, Sarah Hartmann, Brian Lawson and Troy Lawson, two nieces, several cousins including a special cousin Edna Head. Funeral service will be on Wednesday evening at 8:00 PM in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend Robert Wollaber, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Ilion officiating. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Interment will be at later time and at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department, The Mohawk Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross or the charity of your choice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Members of Evening Star Valley Chapter # 82 Order of the Eastern Star are asked to meet at the funeral home on Wednesday evening at 7:45 PM for ritualistic services.
