HERKIMER-Evelyn Bessie Miller, age 91, formerly of 310 Folts Street, passed away peacefully on Friday night August 8, 2014 in Faxton-St. Luke's Medical Center, New Hartford. She had the comfort of her loving family at side. S he was born on March 27, 1923 in the town of Ohio, daughter of the late Ward R. and Bessie Wood Bunce. A lifelong area resident she was educated in Herkimer Elementary School and was a graduate of Poland Central High School. On December 24, 1942 she was united in marriage with Robert E. Shepard in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Herkimer. They shared a devoted union of twenty-one years until his passing on December 25, 1963. In 1975 she moved from the town of Norway to Herkimer. On February 14, 1991 she married C. David Miller in Boonville he preceded in death on April 6, 2001. Evelyn first worked at the Donlon Glove Factory in Herkimer and later then cleaning department at the Masonic Home in Utica and later at the Herkimer Hospital. She retired in 1986. In 2004 she left Herkimer and moved to Boonville to be near her daughter Patricia Kazek and family and had remained there since. Mrs. Miller had a strong faith in God and while living in Herkimer was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. She also held a life membership with the Rebecca's Lodge in Rome. To those who knew her she was a loving, caring and hopeful person. To her family she was the strength that held them together in good times and bad. She will be truly missed by her many friends and family, especially her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving are her daughter, Patricia Kazek and her husband Daniel of Boonville, two sons, David Shepard and his wife Deana of Gouverneur, Richard Shepard and his wife Cathy of Spartanburg, SC, one brother, Donald V. Bunce and his wife Mary of Ilion, a sister Ada Sweet and her husband Nicholas of New Brunfells, TX, six grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and a cousin Ollie Dygert. Besides her parents and husbands Robert Shepard and C. David Miller, she was predeceased by three daughters, twins, Katherine and Ruth Shepard and Julie Shepard, two brothers, Raymond Bunce and Richard Bunce. Calling hours for Mrs. Miller will be on Monday (today) from 6:00 until 8:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. Funeral service will take place on Tuesday at 1:00 pm in the funeral home. The Reverend Linda Logan, Rector of the Trinity Episcopal Church, Boonville will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
