Obituary

EAST HERKIMER - Everett James Bass, III, age 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 9, 2015 in Little Falls Hospital. Mr. Bass was born on April 23, 1928 in Herkimer, NY a son of the late Everett J. and Anna Neth Bass. A lifelong area resident, he was raised in Herkimer and graduated from Herkimer High School. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corp and proudly served his country during World War II being honorably discharged with the rank of corporal on November 19, 1947. Continuing on with the reserves, he then served in the Korean War until his discharge in the fall of 1950. On April 23, 1949, he was united in marriage with the former Ruth Busch of Dolgeville, NY. Mr. Bass worked for over twenty-five years as an Engineer and Corporate Consultant for the General Electric Company in Utica, retiring in 1982. He was a faithful member of Saint Francis deSales Catholic Church in Herkimer, a member of the Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post #25 in Mohawk where he served as Post Commander, and helped to organize the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Fairfield. Everett enjoyed the outdoorshe was an avid hunter, loved camping and woodworking. To those who knew him he was a devoted family man and was always there for them in good times or bad. He was especially proud of his cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great-grandchild; he will truly be missed. Surviving are his loving wife of sixty-six years, Ruth, seven sons, David Bass and his wife Karen of East Herkimer, Daniel Bass and his wife Coleen of Herkimer, Arthur Bass of Little Falls, William Bass and his wife Jan of East Herkimer, Duane Bass and his wife Shirley of North Augusta, SC, Bernard Bass of East Herkimer, Jason Bass of East Herkimer, daughters, Julia Lyon and her husband Daryl, Valerie Gressler and her husband Christopher all of Dolgeville, Ruth Avery and her companion Ron Nellis of East Herkimer, Carrie Collins of Herkimer, twenty-nine grandchildren, many great grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son Everett Bass IV, two brothers Arthur Bass and Duane Bass and two sisters Rita Sninchak and Joan Marmet. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer with the Very Reverend Mark Cunningham, Pastor of St. Francis deSales Catholic Church, Herkimer will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Dibble-Tuttle Cemetery, Salisbury. The family will be present in the funeral home on Wednesday from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm to receive relatives and friends. Memorial donation may be made to the Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post #25. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Members of the Crowley-Barnum America Legion Post #25 are asked to meet at the funeral home 12:30 pm on Wednesday for ritualistic services.
