RICHFIELD SPRINGS F. Ward House, 91, of River Street, passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon Nov. 8, 2007, in Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side. Ward was born on June 4, 1916, in Richfield Springs, son of the late Fred and Edith Goddard House. A lifelong area resident, he was raised in the town of Columbia and was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School. An honorary discharged United States Army veteran of World War II, he had courageously fought at the Battle of Luzon. For his service to our country he proudly received the American Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. On May 24, 1947, he was united in marriage with the former Anne Senko in Cazenovia. They made their home and raised their family in Richfield Springs. For 16 years, Ward owned and operated Houses Grill on Otsego Street in Ilion. He later took a custodial position with the Richfield Springs Central School system, retiring in 1984, after 19 years of dedicated service. Mr. House was a 53-year member of the Richfield Springs Vets Club and a member of the Richfield Springs Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons, where he had served as Master three times and was currently a Trustee of the Lodge. Ward will always be remembered as an upright, honest man with strong character. Any conservation with him was frank and to the point, but you could always feel a sense of warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. By his many friends and family, he will be greatly missed. Surviving besides his devoted wife of 60 years, Anne, are two sons, Kenneth and A. J. House, both of Richfield Springs; two grandchildren, Michelle and A. J. House Jr..
