VERONA - Florence M. Collins (nee Fetterly) formerly of VanHornesville, passed away on Tuesday March 13, 2012 while she was enjoying the Florida sunshine and many friends, where she was affectionately known as Gram by all.
Florence was born on July 21, 1924 in Ilion, daughter of the late Arthur J. and Eugenia Miller Fetterly. She graduated from VanHornesville Central School as Valedictorian of the class of 1943. On July 31, 1943 she married her one true love, Harold Collins Jr. in Blessed Sacrament Church, Springfield Center. Theirs was a loving relationship through all their sixty-one years together. They were true soul mates and constant companions. She sadly missed her Harold after his death in 2004 until her last breath.
From 1947 until 1965 they owned and operated Collins General Store and VanHornesville Bowling Center. Florence retired as Treasurer of Owen D. Young Central School and Post Mistress of the VanHornesville Post Office.
Mrs. Collins is survived by Harold Collins III and his wife Brenda of Canastota, Eileen and her husband Darwin Tennant of Deerfield, Brian Collins and his wife Beverly of Verona and Dianne and her husband Al Ellard of Monson, MA, she leaves seventeen grandchildren, forty-four great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter; all of whom adored their Gram. She is also survived by her sister Ella Seymour of Rochester.
Mama by true and loving example you taught us to be strong, respectful of everyone and to always love and care about each other. We love you beyond words.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mrs. Collins on Wednesday morning at 11:00am in Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Richfield Springs. The Reverend Terence Healy, Pastor will officiate. Interment will take place in Saint Josephs Cemetery, Richfield Springs later this spring at a time to be announced.
Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to Citrus County Health System, Hospice Unit, 1550 West Highland Blvd.; Inverness, FL 34450. Envelopes will be available at the church service.
