Obituary

SCHUYLER LAKE - Florence Hext, age 89 of Schuyler Lake, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening October 5, 2010 in her daughters home in Syracuse. At the time of her passing she had the loving comfort of her family by her side. Florence was born on October 21, 1920 in Little Falls a daughter of the late Virgil and Suzanne Troken Price. She was raised in Fort Herkimer and educated in Mohawk Schools. In 1939 she married Gerald Peter Hext, Sr. in Mohawk a loving union of 40 years until his passing in 1979. Florence and Gerald moved to Schuyler Lake in 1949 where they had raised their family. She was a Certified Nurses Aide working for Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital and the Clark Nursing Home. She also cared for elderly people in their own homes. Florence was a member of the Schuyler Lake United Methodist Church where she had served as a Lay Member and Trustee. She also served as a Trustee of the Schuyler Lake Cemetery Association. To all who knew Florence, she will always be remembered as a very loving and caring person. Surviving are three sons; Gerald Hext, Jr. and his wife Sharon of Jonesport, ME, James Hext of Schuyler Lake, and Gregory Hext and his wife Marilyn of Richfield Springs, four daughters; Sue Winne and her husband Norman of Schuyler Lake, Penny Vandenburgh and her husband George of Herkimer, Starr Madaras of Schuyler Lake and Florence Hext-Thompson and her husband Richard of Syracuse, a sister Shirley Bouchard and her husband Edward of Stratford and twenty-two grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband Gerald she was preceded in death by two brothers George and Virgil Price, two sisters Betty Lawton and Claire Anderson, and a son-in-law Andrew Madaras. Funeral Service for Florence will take place on Sunday October 10th at 5:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs with the Reverend Thomas Pullyblank, Pastor of the Schuyler Lake United Methodist Church officiating. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. (two hours prior to the service). Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the Schuyler Lake Volunteer Fire Department or Hospice of Central New York envelopes will be available in the funeral home.
