HERKIMER-Florence M. Riesel age 90 of Steuben Hill Road entered into eternal rest on Tuesday afternoon February 10, 2004 at home. She had the comfort of her loving family with her when she passed away.
She was born on May 27, 1913 in Herkimer, daughter of the late George and Catherine Egan Lyon. A lifelong Herkimer resident, she was educated in Herkimer Schools. On February 15, 1934 she married Ernest Hugo Riesel in Syracuse. A loving and devoted union of forty-six years Mr. Riesel predeceased her on August 28, 1980. Mrs. Riesel had a strong belief in God and led a devoted Catholic life. She was a member of Saint Francis deSales Church, Herkimer.
Florence, a beautiful and intelligent woman found great joy in raising her family and working with her husband on the family dairy farm. To her family she was the strength that held them together; she was the strong one who was always there in both good times and bad. She will always be remembered as a loving, caring and hopeful person. She will greatly missed by her many friends and family.
Surviving are two sons, Ernest G. Cub Riesel and his wife Janet, Edward C. Riesel, two daughters, Jane M. Riesel, Sharon Riesel Oldfield all of Herkimer, a special sister Patricia Jones and her husband George of Whitesboro, Three grandchildren Cheryl and her husband Michael Cristman, Mary Riesel, Brian and his wife Brenda Riesel all of Herkimer, three great grandchildren Joseph, Emily and Danielle Riesel, two sister-in-laws, Dorothy Lyon Griffith and Joyce Lyon Demchko, a brother-in-law Burt Werthman, many special nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. She also leaves her special canine Princess.
Besides her parents and husband Ernest she was preceded in death by a cherished great granddaughter Mariah L. Riesel, five sisters, Helen Lyon, Marguerite Nichols, Catherine Lucille Lyon, Mary Boucher, Geraldine Werthman, three brothers, Floyd, Robert, George Lyon and her son-in-law Ronald Oldfield.
Funeral from Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer, Friday at 9:15 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am in Saint Francis deSales Church, Herkimer. The Reverend Mark Cunningham, Pastor will officiate. Mrs. Riesel will be laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery later this spring. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Thursday (today) from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation, the Herkimer County Humane Society or the charity of your choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
