Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Forrest E. VonDauber Sr., 85, of East Main Street, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, in the Julia Blair Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Albany.He was born July 22, 1917, in Vernon, son of the late William W. and Sarah E. Hatzinger VonDauber. Forrest was raised in Cranston, R.I., and graduated high school there. An honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in the European Theater. Mr. VonDauber married the former Isadore Grube in the First Baptist Church, Cooperstown. The Rev. Theodore L. Conklin officiated. Mrs. VonDauber preceded him in death in 1970. In 1936, Forrest and his father William moved their Swivel manufacturing business from Providence, R.I., to Richfield Springs. At one time he, with his father, operated a branch factory in Cooperstown and later changed it into a restaurant business at the same location. Mr. VonDauber was of the Methodist faith. Surviving are one son, Forrest E. VonDauber Jr. and his wife Tracey of Richfield Springs; a daughter, Isadora Daphne VonDauber of California; one brother, Bernard and his wife Gertrude VonDauber of Clark Mills; one grandson, John Michael Nicotera of Richfield Springs. Besides his wife and his parents, a brother, Richard W. VonDauber, predeceased him in 1982. A graveside service will be held in Lake View Cemetery, Richfield Springs, later this spring at a time to be announced. The Rev. William Harkins, pastor of the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs, will officiate. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department. Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.
