EAST HERKIMER-Frances McEvoy age 89 of Pine Grove Road, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning August 14, 2010 in Little Falls Hospital. She was born on January 14, 1921 in Watertown, daughter of the late Michael H. and Bertha Cook Johnson. A lifelong area resident she was raised in Uticawhere she was a graduate of Utica Public Schools. On July 15, 1944 she was united in marriage with Thomas McEvoy in the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion. They shared a loving and devoted union of twenty-four years until his passing on July 24, 1968. For thirty-three years Mrs. McEvoy was employed as a head bookkeeper by the ACME Grocery Store in Herkimer. She retired in 1975. Mrs. McEvoy was a member of Saint Francis deSales Church Herkimer. In her leisure time she enjoyed playing cards with her friends. To all who knew her they will never forget her caring ways, hopeful manner and warm genuine smile. She will be greatly missed. Surviving are one brother, Richard Thompson and his wife Gina of Salisbury Center, nieces and nephews, Brenda and her husband Martin Kucerak of Herkimer, Kate and her husband Steven Small of GA, Sandra and her husband Richard Thomas of Potsdam, Mary Jo and her husband Larry Rogers of Watertown, Richard Jr.Skip and his wife Terese Colwell of Herkimer, Suzanne and her husband Orra Nier of Brownville, along with several great-nieces and great nephews Besides her parents and husband Thomas she was preceded in death by a sister Shirley Colwell. A graveside interment service will be held on Tuesday at 11:30 am in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. The Reverend Mark Cunningham, Pastor of Saint Francis deSales Church will officiate.
