Obituary

HERKIMER - Frances E. Woodford, 94, of 104 N. Washington St., formerly of Dayton Place, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica. She was born on Nov. 2, 1908, in Chickasha, Okla., daughter of the late R. Peter and Sophie Nielsen Christensen. Frances was raised in Mitchell, S.D., where she graduated high school and furthered her education at Mitchell College. On June 11, 1931, she married Albert John Woodford in Binghamton and in 1932, they moved to Herkimer. Theirs was a loving union of 45 years until Mr. Woodford passed away on June 22, 1976. From 1962 until the present, she was an owner-partner in the Herkimer Motel on Marginal Road in Herkimer. Mrs. Woodford had a strong belief in God and led a devoted Christian life. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer-Little Falls, where she was honored for over 50 years of membership this Sunday, She was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Evening Star Valley Chapter 82 Order of the Eastern Star and the Herkimer County Historical Society. Her favorite pastime was gardening and she was a devoted member of the Herkimer Garden Club. All who knew her will remember her warm smile, her energy, her strong will and love of life, family, friends and her pets. She will be greatly missed. Surviving her are a daughter, Faye F. West and her husband Claude of North Greenbush; one brother, Norman H. Christensen of Sanford; a sister, Annabelle C. Sinstack and her husband Harry F. of Oneonta; several nieces and nephews from Oneonta, Ithaca and California; and many cousins from Oneonta and South Dakota. Besides her parents and husband, Albert, a brother, Bert Christensen, preceded her in death. Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer-Little Falls. The Rev. Wrightson Tongue, pastor, will officiate. Following the service, a committal will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, where Mrs. Woodford will be laid to rest next to her husband. The family will be present in Fenner Funeral Home, 115 Court St., Herkimer, to receive relatives and friends on Friday (today) from 5-8 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to Claxton Manor. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Paula Vecchio, the third floor staff "A" of St. Elizabeth Medical Center and the staff of Claxton Manor for the care and compassion shown to Mrs. Woodford during her stay with them.
