Obituary

SYRACUSE - Francis Joseph Horan, 82, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2003, in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Syracuse. He was born in West Exeter and was a graduate of West Winfield High School. He has resided in Syracuse since 1946. An honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II and was a Purple Heart recipient. He played semi-professional baseball. For more than 25 years, he owned and operated Horan Real Estate in DeWitt. For many years he coached Little League Baseball. Surviving are five sons, Francis J. Jr. of Orlando, Fla., James E. of DeWitt, Jan L. of Rochester, Jeffery Folley Horan of Denver, Colo. and Jayce P. Horan Sr. of Cincinnati, Ohio; three daughters, Judith A. Marti of Biglerville, Juanita M. Horan of Syracuse and Jacqueline L. Horan of Pennellville; a sister, Isabell Whittaker of Utica; and 17 grandchildren. The family will receive relatives and friends in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs, on Monday from 6-8 p.m. Graveside service will be held for Mr. Horan when he is laid to rest in Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Richfield Springs later this spring.
