Obituary

HERKIMER - Frank Cimino age 79 passed away peacefully on Saturday morning December 6, 2014 in Saint Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica. He was born on April 22, 1935 in Ilion, son of the late Gigetto and Mary Tocco Cimino. A lifelong Herkimer resident, he graduated from Herkimer High School with the class of 1955. While he was in high school, he was an active member of the School Drama Club performing in numerous plays that were under the direction of Frank Gabler. After completing high school Frank enlisted the US Navy and had served aboard the USS McCaffery. He was honorably discharged in 1959 attaining the rank of Seaman 1st Class. On November 3, 1962 he was united in marriage with the former Sally Henderson in Herkimer. They shared a loving and devoted union of thirty-one years until her passing on June 3, 1994. For twenty-five years, Frank was employed by the New York Telephone Company. First as a lineman, later in the maintenance department and was a member of Local Union # 1126 Communications Workers of America. He retired in 1991. Mr. Cimino was a parishioner of the Church of Sts. Anthony and Joseph, Herkimer. Frank had a strong sense of community. He was a fifty-five year member of Herkimer Elks Lodge # 1439 where he was honored as "Elk of the Year" 1980 -1981, he was a member of the Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department, a fifty-five year member of the Excelsior Hook & Ladder Co., No. 3, a fifty-five year member Herkimer County Volunteer Fireman's Association, Inc., the East Herkimer Fish and Game Club and was a former member of the Saint Anthony's Crusaders Glee Club. To all who knew him, Frank was a caring, generous and helpful man. Any conversation with him was straight and to the point but you always felt his warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family. Surviving him are, two brothers, Vincent J. Cimino of Herkimer, Gene Cimino and his wife Kathy of Ilion, one sister, Anna Marie Palumbo and her husband Charles of Clifton Park, a daughter, Mary Henderson and her family, five nieces, Regina Larzelere and her husband Brian, Dina Petucci and her husband Scott all of Herkimer, Marie Palumbo and her fiance Matt Durivage both of Albany, Chelsea and Christina Cimino of Ilion. Funeral from Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer on Wednesday at 9:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Church of Sts. Anthony and Joseph, Herkimer at 9:30 am with the Reverend Terence Healy officiating and assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will take place this spring in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours for Mr. Cimino will be on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 pm. in the funeral home. Frank's brothers and sister wish to extend their sincere appreciation to the doctors and nurses at Faxton-St. Luke's Medical Center Critical Care Unit and the Intensive Care Unit at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center for their care and compassion shown during his illness. Members of Herkimer Lodge # 1439 B.P.O.E., are asked to be at the funeral home on Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm for ritualistic services.
