Frank E. Helmer, age 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Wynn Hospital, Utica. He was born on September 12, 1938, to the late Norton and Marjory (Christman) Helmer. For many years he worked on the family dairy farm. He later worked at the Union Fork and Hoe for over 26 years, retiring in 2000. On October 14, 1961, he was united in marriage to the former Sarah Babcock. She passed away on January 9, 1999. On September 8th, 2018, he married the former Marylee Lynch. Frank was a kind and gentle man with a smile that warmed your heart. He had a gift of making you feel welcomed and that you found a trusted friend. Frank also was a great handyman who enjoyed tinkering. If you need something fixed, Frank was the man to call. Frank will be remembered mostly for his dedication to his family. He will be missed by all the lives he touched. Beside his wife Mary Lee of 6 years, he is survived by his children and stepchildren, Edward Helmer of Little Falls, Steven Helmer of the town of West Branch, Cheryl (Scott) Crossett of the town of Norway, Betsy Janicki of Whitesboro, Brian Helmer of Wichita KS, Bradley Helmer of Syracuse, step-sons Darin (Crystal) Lynch of Bridgewater, Jason Lynch (Melissa Sperry) of Frankfort, step-daughter Shayla (Joshua) Gifford of Sauquoit, brothers Alton (Madeline) Helmer of Dunkirk, Stuart (Deborah) Helmer of Tarboro, NC, Bert (Mary Ellen) Helmer of the town of Herkimer, Sister-in-law Linda Helmer of Norway, 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephew and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by brothers Eugene and Leon and four sisters, Iren Euron, Marion Richard, Pearl Small and Leverne Helmer. Funeral service and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
