RICHFIELD SPRINGS-Frank Madaras, age 85, passed away on Sunday evening, June 8, 2014, in his home, with his loving family at his side. He was born on July 29, 1928, in Richfield Springs, son of the late Constantine and Mary Hrynko Madaras. A lifelong Richfield Springs resident, he was educated in Richfield Springs High School. A good old fashioned farmer, Frank's entire life was spent on the Madaras Dairy Farm in Brighton. He owned and operated his farm until his retirement in 1995. On October 16, 1998, he was united in marriage with the former Eleanor Buell in Volusia, Florida. They made their home in Richfield. Mr. Madaras had a strong belief in God and was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church in Herkimer. To all who knew him, he was a down to earth, hard working man with good common sense. Any conversation with him was straight and to the point yet you felt a warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be greatly missed. Surviving are his devoted wife of fifteen years, Eleanor; a stepson, Warren Engell and his wife, Kathy, of Cicero; two stepdaughters, Lynda Kenny, of North Syracuse, and Gayle Fralick and her husband, Tim, of Herkimer; a sister-in-law, Star Madaras; six nieces; six nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, John, Michael, Danny, Harry and Andrew Madaras, and five sisters, Mary French, Ann Knowls, Eva Edick, Martha Berlinsky and Olga Nichols. Calling hours for Mr. Madaras will be on Thursday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. Funeral service will take place on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Rick Kinney officiating. Interment will follow in Cedarville Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care or The Old Stone Church, Schuyler Lake. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
